Imessages Not Working on Mac: Problem Faced By Mac Users

Apple’s products are known for having several issues with their products, but it is unfair to claim that they are the only brand that faces issues with connectivity since several other brands also face issues with their products. Apple is known for its own operating systems for both its iPhone and MacBook’s. While the rest of the world uses Windows 10 and Android, apple tries to bring a game changer to this challenging industry and still remains to do decently in terms of performance.

One of the biggest problems mac users face is the iMessage and FaceTime options. However, this is nothing to worry about, as there are several solutions available. But some people face issues with imessage not working on mac, and this can be extremely frustrating as Mac users usually also use an iPhone, so to sync their phones with their laptop is essential for them as life becomes a lot easier. To fix this issue, continue to read and find several solutions to your problem:

Basic Settings Check

When you initially open your messages on your Mac, you are asked to sign in to your imessage account with what is known as your Apple ID. This makes the imessage automatically sign in to your account every time you open it. The same also applies to FaceTime, so sign in to your Apple ID and try these following things:

  • Restart your device: go to the Apple menu and click restart.
  • Another thing you can try is checking for any software updates in your MacBook’s macOS and your iPhone’s IOS. Usually, these basic issues have basic solutions.
  • Check the date and time your both your MacBook and iPhone. If your time zones are added differently on both the devices, then this can also cause issues with both imessages and FaceTime.
  • What to do If You See, “This User is Not Registered with iMessage.”

When you see the message “this user is not registered with iMessage” pop up, then this likely means that if you send a message, then it will not be sent. This is because the message is using SMS/MMS to send your text. Make sure the text message forwarding setting is properly set and that your iPhone is powered on.

  • What to do If Your Contacts See your Email Address Instead of your Phone Number

If your contacts see your email address instead of your phone number after you have sent them a message, then this means you are not signed in to your imessage with the same Apple ID as you have with all your other devices. Make sure that you use the same Apple ID on all your devices, or you will continue to face this issue.

  • Make Sure to Check Your Internet Connection

Make sure that all your Apple devices are connected to the internet. To test your connection out, simply load a webpage or ask a friend to send you an email.

  • Check your Service Outage

Check your “Apple System Status” on this page; you will see if there is any temporary outage that is affecting your imessage or FaceTime.

  • Check Apple ID

Make sure that your Apple ID and the password you have entered is correct. Proceed to go to your Apple ID account page and log in to the same Apple ID that you are using on both your imessages and FaceTime. If this process works for you, then continue to open the app and follow these steps:

  • Click messages
  • Click preference and then go to accounts
  • Click on your imessage account
  • Select the “Sign Out” option
  • Sign in again, this time with the same Apply ID and the one you used on the Apple ID account page.

If you wish to know how to fix FaceTime as well, then follow these steps:

  • Click FaceTime
  • Select preference
  • Go to the settings tab
  • Click on sign out
  • Sign in with the same Apple ID that you have used on the Apple ID account page.
  • Reset NVRAM

If you are facing any issue related to the settings stored on your NVRAM, then restart your NVRAM on your Mac device.

  • Look into Any Issues Being Cause by Third Party Software’s

If you have a firewall, VPN’s, antivirus, or any other third-party app/ software installed, then look into their settings and make sure that they are not blocking the network connection between your imessage and FaceTime. If you have to, then disable the software/ app and try using your imessage or FaceTime apps again.

  • Check if your imessage is “Enabled” on Your Mac

To enable imessage on your Mac, if no other solution works, you might have to disable it entirely. After you disable it, re-enable imessage. This will cause the app to “Reset” itself.

If you wish to disable imessage, go to the “messages” app that is available on your Mac and go to the menu. From the list provided to you, go to “preferences.” Proceed to click on the “imessage” tab and then check if your Apple ID is correct. Continue to uncheck the option “enable this account”; this will disable the app. Open your app again and go through all the steps again to enable the app.

  • Sign Out from imessage on your Mac and Sign in Again

Other than trying to enable and disable your imessage, you can also try to sign out from your imessage on your Mac and sign in again. When you do this, it refreshes your account. If you want to follow this process, click on the “messages” app on your Mac and go to the menu.

From the list that shows up, select “preference,” then click on the “imessage” tab. Proceed to click on “Sign Out” and leave the app. Open the app and go back to settings to sign in to your Apple ID all over again.
