Finding the Best Mac Antivirus: Do You Really Need it?

Today, Apple offers two ways to install applications on macOS: using the Mac App Store and downloading the distribution of a game or program from the Internet. On iOS, a different situation since birth – the company left one App Store. Painstaking moderators work on Apple software distribution sites, who do not let malicious code through automatic and manual testing. And so there are no viruses on iOS or macOS.

If you download software on a Mac from the App Store, don’t worry. But the application store does not have a number of useful programs, so you will not be able to manage this platform alone. To avoid viruses, do not download programs from the sources you are not sure about. In fact, all applications that were not downloaded from the site of a popular developer are in doubt, so you should be careful.

Try popular antiviruses

Mac users with 10 years of experience claim that there are no viruses for macOS. But this opinion is not completely true. The malicious software constantly emerges with other ways to crack a MacBook. So, here are the antivirus programs we can suggest.

BitDefender. It is one of the most popular antiviruses among modern macOS users, which they recommend as a solution. It works in the background and does not bother the user – it detects malicious software and deletes it.

Intego Mac Internet Security. It is the antivirus software package, which includes a shield for malware and phishing. Its advantage is a special macOS and Windows Protection Kit through Boot Camp paired.

Kaspersky. Use it to add Mac virus protection. But the main thing is to prohibit the secret inclusion of the camera for surveillance.

Malwarebytes. Western journalists claim that Apple employees use this antivirus. They install a program for cleaning Mac when contacting the office. It fits the requirements of the system entirely.

Identify Mac Viruses

It is almost impossible to achieve a slowdown of the Mac in terms of regular use. It only slows down if you download software. Otherwise, it does not. If it slows down for no reason, your device may have caught the virus. Pay attention to the programs above or run to the specialist.

Some viruses are not created for harm, but for earning money. These viruses place ads in other macOS windows that are not intended for this, such as suspicious windows on top of everything, obsessive offers on YouTube, and sites.

An indicator of Mac virus infection will be your friends on social networks, instant messengers, and email. If they ask about strange messages that come from your mailbox, your Mac is probably infected.

Applications with which malicious code works take longer to open. Often, they are tied to browsers, such as tools for working with the network, shopping, and so on. If you notice something was wrong, it is a red flag.

However, some viruses are smarter than users. They sit in the bowels of the OS and do the hard work of collecting information and so on. Without special software, you will not be able to understand that the computer is infected and, thus, continue losing data.

Bottom Line

With the popularity of Macbooks, the number of malicious software is increasing. But today, it does not compare with the amount of such software on Windows, which is still out of reach for macOS. Mac viruses do exist and function. But picking up at least one in everyday life is not an easy task. They exist on resources that are not visited by ordinary users and advanced ones. For that reason, you may need to consider finding the best Mac antivirus for your device. In this case, you will not have to deal with any unpredicted problems with your Mac. Although the resources of the computer are usually enough, without an antivirus, your system is still at risk, especially if not all the programs you use are downloaded from the official store.
