4 Tips for Designing Your New Website

With so many design options and techniques for designing a website these days, it’s hard to know where to begin. Of course, it’s essential to set your design out from the crowd and create your own image and branding, but it’s also important to ensure that you have a set of fundamentals down as the foundation to build your new website.

Below are four areas you definitely shouldn’t compromise on when it comes to good website design.

1. Your Website Needs to be Mobile Friendly

In this virtual age, mobile optimization and usability goes without saying. More and more consumers are opting to browse websites and perform online shopping tasks via their smartphones. Mobiles are so handy to pick up anywhere, at any time, and browse during downtime, such as in bed or lounging on the sofa, which is why the practice has become so popular.

That’s why it’s vital that your website works perfectly on any mobile device – and this includes any screen size and mobile model.

2. Include a Favicon

This is a design element tailored to those who frequently browse between websites and have multiple tabs open at once. A favicon enables your website to still be recognized even when it’s not open as the active tab, by providing a small thumbnail image or logo on the tab itself. This is important in drawing the eye back to your site and ensuring it’s not lost in a mass of open websites. Take a look at the 10 best favicon generators to find the right solution for your website so that you can make the most of the benefits that come with having a favicon.

3. Avoid a Busy and Cluttered Design

You may have a lot to say or a high number of products available, and it’s only natural to want to display everything you have to offer on the homepage or landing page to entice consumers in. However, throwing too much at a visitor all at once and resulting in a cluttered and confusing design will only serve to dissuade visitors from browsing any further.

It’s better to leave the more detailed information and content to its specific page. The homepage itself should be as sleek and minimalistic as possible, with the opportunity to provide more and go into further detail on each relevant page or product landing page. By doing so, you are supplying more information when the consumer voluntarily clicks and therefore asks for it, rather than overwhelming them the moment they land on your site.

4. Good Navigation is Key

Think about what you would want from a website if you were browsing or looking for something in particular. Would complicated navigation infuriate you? Would it make you click off the website completely if it was too much hassle? Well, the same goes for your target market. Your website’s navigation needs to be simple and user-friendly. Everything on your site should have its proper place and should be signposted accordingly. Easy-to-use navigation tabs in a visible place on every page are very helpful for ease when browsing.
