Key benefits of using Artificial Intelligence

Most individuals have come across the terms artificial intelligence or machine learning. A number of them are not quite sure what the concept of AI is or how it would be utilized to improve day to day life. Despite the widespread lack of familiarity, however, AI is a technology that is fast burgeoning and transforming life as we have known it in numerous amazing ways.

We already know by now that phones are capable of recognizing our voices and faces incredibly well these days- and we have machine learning and AI to thank for that. And let’s not get started on the wonders of autonomous driving.

Driverless cars have become increasingly popular in the last few years. Automated cars don’t rely on newfangled tech, like the supercomputers that drove the tech boom all those years ago. Rather, self-driving cars rely heavily on software that can mimic human intelligence and although there are still some major kinks to work out, the progress over the last decades has been promising to say the least.

At the rate at which the world is hurting towards AI, robots will surely take over in the future. While we are nowhere near sentient artificial intelligence just yet, AI is improving exponentially. after waiting for so long with nothing much to show, suddenly robots are writing movie scripts and playing chess better than the best grandmasters.

The progress has been so rapid that most people will agree that we are living on the verge of an AI revolution. Well-known names and faces that work in the software industries- notable individuals such as Elon Musk and Bill Gates- have been sounding the alarm for years. Sadly, their calls have gone largely ignored by policymakers and until recently, often ridiculed by box office movies and TV shows.

From the advent of the first spear to the creation of phones that are powerful enough to film and box-office movies or land the Apollo, humans have always strived for efficiency- and things are no different with AI. Not impressed? You really should be. If you are not in the know, here are the key benefits of using artificial intelligence:

AI has led to increased efficiency in the modern workplace

AI used to be a futuristic vision only to be explored in various works of fiction. Today, however, AI technology is being integrated and deployed in all sorts of industries and sectors to considerably improve the productivity and proficiency levels in modern workplaces, as well as augmenting tasks that were previously reserved for humans.

AI is taking over monotonous or dangerous tasks, freeing up individuals to perform duties that they are much better equipped and suited for such as those that involve creativity or feelings like empathy. If people are left to carry out jobs that are more suited for them, then it is likely that people will be a lot happier and more satisfied in the future.

AI has led to reduced errors

Human error- it’s inescapable. No matter how attentively one works, errors are bound to occur at some point- and it’s completely natural. Computers, however, don’t often make mistakes, particularly when they are programmed correctly.

Artificial intelligence works when decisions and actions are taken from previously collected data applying a particular set of algorithms. As a result, errors are brought to a minimum and the chance of attaining a greater degree of precision is heightened.

Machines can take risks that human beings simply cannot

This is perhaps one of the biggest benefits of AI. As long as advances in the field continue, the best books on artificial intelligence state that AI will only get better (great list here, if you want to stay up to date on the latest trends in AI). This will allow us to escape many human limitations such as fear of risk-taking.

Whatever human beings are afraid to explore, be it exploring mars, mining rare minerals in some of the most dangerous locations in the world, or anything in between, you can be sure that robots can do it much better and more efficiently at the fraction of the cost.

Case in point- ever heard of the Chernobyl nuclear explosion that occurred in Ukraine in 1986. Clearing of the debris would have been nearly impossible without robot intervention. However, robots as we appreciate them today did not exist back in the 80s. The clearing process took months, nearly countless helicopter flights, and lots of deaths and infections as a result of radiation poisoning.

This explosion left a legacy of polluted land and to this day, this area is one of the most badly contaminated with radioactivity on the planet. If robots were as advanced as they are today, perhaps things would have turned out a little bit differently.

Improving education

Machine learning and AI have proven to be increasingly beneficial. In education, especially, AI has led to personalized learning for all types of learners and is already currently being utilized for individualized learning support for a growing number of learners worldwide.

AI can be used to identify a student’s particular weaknesses and strengths so that all students, especially those that vulnerable, can receive the targeted assistance that they require to prosper.

Growth in the criminal justice system

AI has already made significant contributions to the criminal justice system. Police departments and courts all over the world are currently using AI to mitigate bias. Therefore, instead of human beings handling profiling and risk assessment, machines will do it to improve objectivity and eradicate human bias.

Machines usually can provide the analysis needed- and it is free of sexual, racial gender, or any other biases. However, if the criminal system is to incorporate AI and make it more mainstream, then it has to be 100% vetted and accurate to ensure that people’s lives are not negatively impacted.

Final Thoughts

For decades, AI and automation, in general, have been used to increase efficiency in business. Now, as technology continues to become more accessible worldwide, our personal and working lives have never been more automated.

AI is an all-encompassing tool that has enabled businesses and individuals to rethink the way that they analyze and integrate data so that the resulting insights can be utilized to improve processes and decision making, literally transforming the way that we live modern life today.
