How to Find the Best Type of Mattress for Your Needs

Your bedroom is the most important part of your house, and your mattress is the most important part of your bedroom. Quality of sleep is not something that can be taken lightly, and poor sleep affects you more than you think. Not feeling your best is one thing, but lack of sleep can lead to conditions such as depression, diabetes, and even cardiovascular disease.

One of the best ways to improve your sleep is to pick a good mattress. And the mattress can’t only be good on the surface; it has to be the right mattress for you. Let’s take a look at what you should look for when buying a mattress.

Lifespan

The first thing you should determine is whether you actually need a mattress. As a rule of thumb, the average mattress will last around 7 years. You also have to take lifespan into consideration when buying a new mattress. As noted on bestmattress-brand.org, foam mattresses tend to be more durable than the rest. Latex and hybrid mattresses are also very durable. All three of these mattresses could last you for up to 10 years. The least durable are pillowtop, innerspring, and waterbed mattresses.

Consider Your Budget

While everyone would like to have the absolute best mattress, they can get very expensive. However, with the number of options, both online and offline, you can find great deals around the $800 to $1200 mark.

And don’t be fooled by the price tag either. That often says nothing about the actual quality of the mattress. A large part of it is marketing, and mattress stores have a way to market sub par mattresses as premium. So, make sure that you get reliable opinions first, and look at what the reviews have to say.

Determine Your Ideal Sleeping Position

Most of us have a preferred position when sleeping, and this will make a significant difference as to which type of mattress you should buy. You might want a firmer or more supple mattress depending on which positions you sleep in the most.

For instance, people who tend to sleep on their stomachs and back should look for something that is medium to medium firm. People who like to sleep on their sides, on the other hand, should be looking for something more on the softer side.

Choose the Ideal Material and Type

Now that you’ve determined your sleeping position, you can start looking at materials. It’s important here to know what you’re looking for and expecting from a mattress, and don’t only go by other people’s opinions. Some people may swear by latex. Others may prefer memory foam. But only you can know what’s actually best for you.

For instance, spring mattresses have been getting a bad rap lately, but they do have the benefit of keeping you cool at night due to the spacing of the springs. Memory foam is a great option as it really hugs your body and provides support where you need it the most, without being too firm. Memory foam also isolates movement very well, which makes it a great option if you’re going to be sharing the mattress with somebody. While latex mattresses are renowned for regulating temperature, they have some good bounce, and they’re very durable.

It’s up to you to look at all the options, and look at the pros and cons of each, before you make your decision.

So, now that you know a little more about what you should be looking for in the perfect mattress, you can start your search and find one that will not only feel comfortable, but last for years to come. Make sure that you look at as many reviews as possible, and make your final decision based on your personal preferences first.
