Guide to Uploading Google Docs Easily to WordPress

60% of content management teams use WordPress. It is easily the best website builder out there. Google Docs, the most popular platform when it comes to online sharing and editing is a simple and secure way to know your content is automatically saved and safe with no logins needed.

Seems like a match made in heaven, right? Not exactly. If like most people you write or hire a writer to create content for your site from Google Docs to WordPress and then you try to upload it to WordPress, you are in for a nasty surprise, formatting issues.

You have probably experienced the following when trying to copy and paste from Docs WordPress: links, formatting, and image issues. Luckily, we have thrown together this straightforward guide to solve this issue without code or changing your WP theme.

Compare Different Solutions

The first step for any content writer is to pick a SAS app or editor so you can create content in your Google Docs and export to WordPress. This should be a simple one-step process. There are quite a few options out there:

Let’s look at the editor option first:

The Gutenberg Editor is already a part of your WP. Select that instead of the Classic Editor. It is still recommended to upload images separately for SEO purposes.

To clear formatting you will need to take the following steps:

  1. Copy and paste contents from Google Docs to WordPress Visual Editor. Select text and copy it again.
  2. Now “Add New” to make a temporary blank draft. Then paste your content again. Pasting the second time will automatically clear up any extra line breaks.
  3. Copy and paste from the temporary draft back into your original post. Make sure to highlight all of the content and clear formatting. This gets rids of font weights and keeps your headers.

As you can see, this is a pretty straightforward and free three-step process. It works but can be cumbersome. Other issues include still needing to take additional steps to not lose bolded and other special font texts. With thousands of formatting elements in each piece of content, this can very time-consuming.

Using a Program

Another option is exporting your content through a program. These programs are very convenient and unlike editors, will carry over your bold, italics, bullets, and images without issues.

SAS application:

SAS refers to an integrated software suite that is command-driven. It is used for many different applications and is an excellent and easy way to get your content to WordPress. An up and coming program that does this is Docsify, a one-click solution. No copy and pasting or coding needed.

This is a great app for bloggers, content teams, and editors. Additional perks to SAS is the ability to add integrations to meet the demands of more customers. One of these would be an eCommerce solution who need to create content with many images can also get their GoogleDoc content over to Shopify or other eCommerce sites.

Takeaway

The collaboration from Google Docs to WordPress is an obvious and excellent solution to upload content easily. Choosing a solution to bypass the formatting issues will save you time, stress, and money. There are quite a few different options out there, from the WordPress Editor, programs, and SAS applications. Choose the one that is best for you, and start scaling content like never before.
