CBD Oil vs. Hempseed Oil: What’s the Difference?

Practically everyone has heard of CBD oil these days, leading to more and more people trying it for the first time.  However, it isn’t always an easy thing to get started in the world of CBD oil. There seems to be a vast range of products that share the ‘CBD oil’ label, even though they’re different.

One of the most common products that confuses CBD oil is hemp seed oil, which seems to be awfully similar.

So, what is the difference between hemp seed oil and legitimate CBD oil?

What Is CBD Oil?

To tell CBD oil and hemp seed oil apart easily, it is vital to understand what CBD oil actually is. While many people think of it as a somewhat mysterious substance that is vaguely related to cannabis, it is actually quite a simple product.

CBD oil is nothing more than CBD extracted from hemp plants and suspended inside inert, food-grade oil. This oil is typically either coconut oil or even hemp seed oil, which is generally where a lot of the confusion comes from.

The CBD within CBD oil is either pure cannabidiol or full spectrum. Full spectrum means that it comes alongside other minor cannabinoids and terpenes found within hemp plants. This encourages a more thorough intake of cannabinoids and tends to lead to a better effect, known as the entourage effect.

While CBD oil can also come with all kinds of other ingredients, terpenes, or flavoring, the base of it is nothing more than CBD extract and food-grade oil.

This simplicity is pretty helpful because it means that you can always tell if what you have is CBD oil based on the ingredients. If the ingredient label doesn’t contain cannabidiol, it likely isn’t CBD oil.

What about hemp seed oil, though? How is it different?

What Is Hemp Seed Oil?

The big problem with hemp seed oil as a product is that it sounds like it could be the same thing as CBD oil. After all, CBD oil comes from hemp plants, so surely hempseed oil is the same thing, right?

A lot of the confusion arises from conniving manufacturers who hope that you won’t be able to tell the difference.

The key is really in the name “hempseed” oil. Whereas CBD oil is made from cannabinoids extracted from the hemp plants themselves, hemp seed oil is only made from the seeds themselves.

Hempseed oil is thus only a food-grade oil that is used as cooking oil, and indeed as an ingredient in CBD oil itself.

While it does come from the same plant as CBD oil, it does not contain any cannabinoids whatsoever. This is a big problem for those that do not understand this, as they find themselves getting the wrong thing.

Hemp seed oil contains no CBD whatsoever, and thus, it has no therapeutic effect other than the nutrients found within the oil. While you can undoubtedly use hemp seed oil as a healthy alternative to most cooking oils, you cannot use it to help with ailments like you can with CBD oil.

The key is to check the ingredients and to see if what you are buying contains any CBD at all. CBD oils can contain hemp seed oil, but hemp seed oil on its own will not contain CBD. Devious sellers might try and make their hemp seed oil seem like CBD oil when it is nothing more than a healthy cooking oil.

Final Thoughts on CBD Oil vs. HempSeed Oil: What’s the Difference?

Learning that sellers are trying to trick you into buying hemp seed oil when you wanted CBD oil can be pretty disheartening.

No one wants to think that they are being deceived, nor do they like the idea that it is so easy to be tricked into buying the wrong thing.

However, keep in mind that most CBD retailers and manufacturers are making honest, reputable CBD oil for you to consume. It is only those seeking to make quick profits that are trying to mislead you deliberately.

The best way to avoid being tricked is to stay vigilant and always be checking the ingredient labels. If you aren’t sure, contact the company or retailers themselves to find out if it actually contains CBD oil.

An even more natural way is to only buy your CBD oil from reputable, trusted sources. Places like Premium Jane only sell reliable, actual CBD oil. They come with helpful lab reports that carefully detail what is inside the CBD oil down to the microgram.

These lab reports ensure you are only ever buying what you want. Regardless, keep your wits about you and only buy your CBD oil or hempseed oil from a source you trust – if they have a lab report, you are likely in the right place.
