5 Things You Must Know Before You Visit Bali

If you have an Instagram account then you’ve probably seen pictures of your favorite influencers holidaying in Bali. It’s one of those places that are both serene and exciting. However, what most people don’t realize is that this picturesque destination can be a bit overwhelming for some.

It will hit you with a kaleidoscope of colors, scents, spices, cultures, languages and busy streets that can leave you feeling more hassled than relaxed. But, when done right, Bali can be relaxing, fun and enjoyable.

Just make sure to follow these things when you travel there so you can have the time of your life!

Research is Very Important

One of the first things you’ll notice when you travel to Bali is the huge differences in culture between different regions of the island. On the one hand, you have places like Nusa Dua and Canggu which are havens of relaxation and have some of the best beaches in Bali, while Seminyak and Kuta are great party islands.

Visitors are spoilt for choice and it can be difficult to figure out where to start. That’s why we recommend doing your research and plan your itinerary beforehand. There are plenty of YouTube videos and Facebook groups that offer great advice on how best to enjoy Bali no matter what time of the year you travel.

You Should Buy a Local SIM

A majority of the villas, restaurants and hotels in Bali offer complimentary Wi-Fi. All you have to do is ask for the password to enjoy high-speed Internet. It’s also worth it to get a local SIM when you get to Bali so you can communicate without worrying about pricey global roaming charges.

Pedestrian Crossings Are Dangerous

Travel insurance is key when traveling to Bali because you never know what could happen. It’s also important to make sure documents such as your passport are safely locked away in the hotel safe and email copies to yourself just in case.

It’s quite common for tourists to injure themselves while doing something as simple as crossing the road because a lot of the “pedestrian crossings” are just there for decoration. Also, be mindful of street signs and be careful of the uneven streets.

You Should Ask for Air Conditioning

Tourism is one of Bali’s top GDP contributors so it only makes sense that there would be a lot of accommodation options to choose from. From beach shacks to villas, resorts and hotels, visitors are truly spoilt for choice. The type of accommodation will largely depend on your budget and your needs.

We highly recommend TripAdvisor for reliable hotel information. Otherwise, you should always double check with the owner or manager of the place you’re staying at if your room has air conditioning. Trust us, you don’t want to be in Bali without air conditioning!

Also, be sure to carry your hotel’s contact details in your purse or backpack so it’s easy to make your way back no matter how far you travel around the island.

Take Sunscreen and Tissues

As you would when traveling to any country, it’s important to check in with your doctor before you fly to Bali to make sure you get any vaccinations that are necessary. It’s also worth traveling with a mini medical kit just in case you get injured or experience the infamous “Bali Belly.”
