Being an entrepreneur is hard, but rewarding work. Seeing those sales roll in feels incredible, but it’s often a lot of work getting there. You wouldn’t be the first entrepreneur working 12 hours a day in the beginning! But believe us: you don’t have to work yourself to the bone and never see your family to have a thriving business! In this article, we talk about some tips for time management so you can continue to grow your business in a manner that’s healthy for your body and your mind.
If you look at what you do in a day, there are bound to be some tasks that are really repetitive. From sending the same information to customers to fixing your invoices … Lots of tasks take up a lot of your time, when they shouldn’t. Luckily, we live in the digital age! There are tons of programs on the market that handle time-consuming, repetitive tasks. Why would you spend a lot of time filling in invoices when you can let software do it for you? Believe us: not having to do the same, boring thing every day/week or month will make you feel a lot happier. And that’s not all – humans are prone to errors while doing repetitive tasks, software programs don’t have that issue!
If you just started your business, it’s normal that you do pretty much everything yourself. But at some point you have to admit you’re growing too much to keep on doing everything yourself. That’s the perfect time to take a look at your weekly schedule and see what you could outsource. Outsourcing might seem scary, but it has many advantages. For one, if you hire a professional for a certain task, they might do your work better and in less time than you usually need.
There are tons of things you can outsource. We always recommend outsourcing your accounting to a freelance accountant or accountancy firm, unless you really know what you’re doing. Most entrepreneurs spend an insane amount of time trying to fill in their taxes and dealing with their paperwork. Why would you bother with that when your accountant can fix everything for you and make sure you pay the least amount of taxes?
Another thing that we recommend outsourcing is marketing. Sure, social media apps make it really easy to make ads and spend a lot of money. But it’s tricky – you can spend a lot of money on ads and get 0 sales if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing. Furthermore if you sell a product or a service, you want to score well in Google. But what if your competitors score in the top spots and you’re not even in the first 50 results? Then you obviously need a good SEO strategy. A marketing agency can list your goals and start working towards them with a SEO, content and Ads strategy. They can make you score better in the search results, make sure you get a better return on investment on your ads and more.
And while we’re talking about money – it’s important that your debtors pay their invoices. Not getting your invoices paid is bound to happen to every entrepreneur and let’s be honest – it’s shitty. If it happens, you can spend day after day or week after week trying to contact your debtor … or you can hire a debt collection agency (Dutch: incassobureau). If your agency calls on your behalf, most debtors know you mean business! If that doesn’t work, your collection agency can help you take your case to appeal (Dutch: hoger beroep).
Would you ever bail on a meeting with a client? No! That’s why it’s a good idea to treat yourself as one of your clients every now and then. With that we mean that it’s totally ok to schedule some time into your busy agenda for a workout class. Or for dinner with your family. Or just to take a walk around the block. Don’t skip this time with yourself – you need some personal time for your mental health!
We hope we helped you out with these time management tips!
